see traces of green over the whole thing. I would still love to have this helmet,
the colors are combined in a unbelievable way.

Originally posted by WalterBBaloney! That is a great, untouched helmet. Congratulations and thanks for showing it.
You can clearly see the painter sprayed around the eagle within a certain border, not to overspray the eagle by accident. This wasn't done with the nationalshield, so I believe this one was painted over. Seems logical regarding regulations.
So then the decal is uncovered at some time:
Because the use of stencils, it is highly likely the painter, painted several helmets. It it might be possible that the owner of the helmet didn't liked the painting over the shield so he whiped it off. The other possibility is the removal of the paint by a chemical done a long time ago because of the coloring of the shield.
I tend to believe in the first story?? but just wanted to point out that using paintweakening chemicals I can come up with the same result of "bottering" looked paint, except that the decal isn't colored this nice.
And for the ones who forgot my opinion about the helmet.
seems to be High end camo season, strange because I don't believe I have such a season, seems to be winter here all the time

Hello All,
Being an oil painter (have finished School of Fine Arts) as a hobby, I can say with great confidence that these decals have not in any way been exposed.
My opinion for what is worth.
Best Regards,
Tony

I've been following this thread and the discussion about these decals with great interest. It is also blatantly obvious to me that these two Luft camo helmet decals have not been "dug out". Collectors with experience can readily see that the patina on the national colours is old and original and the paint overspray pattern is consistent with how these normally appear.
