    M31 Liners: a few questions

Having read numerous websites, and a few of the more popular helmet reference books, I am still puzzled over a few things specific to the M31 German liner.

I understand that Norwegian PW liners have brass rivets attaching the leather to the band, whilst the German liner has steel rivets. Are there any other liners that resemble the German 8 fingered liner and have steel rivets?

Also, can M31 german liners have metal gromets in addition to the leather gromets/washers on the fingers where the draw cord is located?

    Thanks in advance.....

M31 liners never have metal grommets at the tips of the fingers, there is a Czech liner that resembles the M31 somewhat but has brass grommets in the fingers and is stitched to the liner band. As for your other question; not that I have come across.

This is the liner in question: steel rivets holding the leather to the band, but steel? grommets to the fingers, with leather grommets behind the fingers:

"I understand that Norwegian PW liners have brass rivets attaching the leather to the band, whilst the German liner has steel rivets. "

Norweigan post war liners and Norweigan post war reworked German liners have brass split pins holding the leather to the inner liner band, but may sometimes (rarely) be found with the original German aluminum split pins in place. In addition, the Norweigan outer liner band will be secured into the shell with brass rivets and no washers, while the Germans used a brass on early models with a slotted washer, and steel rivets with slotted washers on the rest.

As for your picture: Thats not a German M31 liner. Wrong leather and chinstrap bales are tto long.

That is a Czech liner 100% Note the stitching around the edge and the grommets.

And so the mystery ends! Thanks for the education. I had read about the Norwegian liners looking alike, but not Czech pw liners.
