I found your decal very interesting as I've never seen this toning before, but couldn't make out due to the blurry pics and it is why I asked for clear close ups, doesn't necessarily mean its bad, just trying to figure out whats going on, thats all. The decal already looks promising, just need clear pics to confirm whats going on with the heavy toning.

Anyways, no harm done. Hope all is still good.

I was half asleep last night, perhaps i came over all wrong, not trying to offend anyone !!

Just managed to take a close up picture of decal, did have a blob of clay on it which i removed CAREFULLY with a cotton bud, clay was quite soft, i understand it was dug quite recently

Started to rain when pics were took so some rain on it

If this decal is not original i give up ! Going to get the train set out of my mothers loft !!!

IMO, the decal appears to be a good one. To me, it looks to have been lacquered?? Would love to see what others have to say.

yes decal has thick layer of laquer over it
which i am sure helped to preserve it as good..
it is flaking off as can be seen on patches on decal..

Great Piece!!! How did you come about getting this helmet???? What started me on this helmet hobby was seeing videos (youtube) of people living throughout areas of old battlefields (especially in Germany and Russia) digging up unbelievable items of history.

I do have opportunities to go to Europe often (in laws) but never around areas where I can "discover" a buried M40 or Mg42

Oh well, should have married a German girl instead
