It is not personal....just tiresome with no end in sight. You just refuse to accept anything that is being said. Why did you post the helmet, if you did not want opinions?

No one is scared of being challenged. You are not challenging anything. You have convinced yourself that your helmet is ok, and are not happy that no one is liking what they see. Buy it, no one really cares anymore if you get ripped off........we are not here to stroke our egos, we are trying to help. Many of us hate to see fake camos get accepted, we hate to think of someone paying anything near what a real SS camo might cost...we are trying to warn buyers to get some trusted opinions before they spend hard earned dollars.

I read this "mind numbing" thread because I care about the future of the hobby and this section. We are worried about the views, thought processes and logic displayed by some. We worry that camo helmet buyers will have no idea who to listen to and whose opinion to just ignore.

      Jean,
I'm a big boy In the end I didn't buy the helmet, so I haven't lost any money. But this is a discussion forum....So that is why I wanted to discuss this helmet. Why Willi got annoyed with me I don't know .
From the very start that is all I wanted to do. If it has been talked about all before I'm sorry, but this was about a specific helmet and not the one's that have gone before. Thanks for your concern

You just lost some money; for all the rest of us today is just anothere day, and we are not going to make an affaire about another camo helmet. Let a few days go by, and you will see the affaire more clearly.
The guys that gave you advice know what they are talking about. The wear paterns on your helmet are un natural; the leather is strange. Just that should be enaugh to make you walk away. Do you want to convince yourself that maybe a german soldier in 1944 had fun making strange wear paterns? Fine; but dont expect people to be thinking the same thing; and dont expect them to go on and on in their explanations. There are threads about bad camo helmets all the time; and people are sick of repeating the same things over and over to people that dont want to hear. Dont ake this as an insult; its normal to not want to hear after you just spent several hundred dollars.

Many people have lost thousands of dollars to fakes and many more have those
same fakes in their collections, happy in the thought that they are real.
I myself have lost a good sum before I found this forum..
You should be jumping for joy in the air you didn't buy this helmet and thanking
the people on this forum for helping steer you in the right direction.
Next time you post a helmet they may not be so helpful and you may end
up, happy in the thought that it is real...

I think I need to clear a number of things up.......
If you would like to read back through this thread I have thanked all that have made a comment. And I say AGAIN that I do appreciate them.

ALL I did was challenge a few of the comments from forum members.
I Didn't want my ego massaged.
Or want you to 'Jump with joy' at the sight of my helmet.
If you think it is wrong that is fine but be prepared to explain as I need that knowledge.
Why some of the comments started to get aggressive towards me is beyond me. And to say that the next time I post a helmet you might not help...well

The thread was said to be 'Tiresome with no end in sight'. If you look carefully I had ended it but some wouldn't let it go.

This all got very messy which is strange because all we were doing is discussing a German helmet, and maybe the reason that some 'experts' got annoyed was that they are not used to someone on here challenging their opinion instead of following like sheep behind their comment/entry.
What you forget is that not everyone is at your level of experience with helmets, so what is the problem with explaining/quantifying what you have said.
I intend to end this AGAIN but I will leave a day if you want to give me another slap.

All I have to say is, I'm not an expert and I do thank these people (as a novice
collector ) because without them, the fakers win...
If you want to challenge them then thats your business but I trust them
for their experience and I know many others do. Sorry, but if you
believe we are sheep being led then, you can believe that and I have nothing more to say...

Europe & especially England is amassed with post war camos,SS decals etc. etc. unless you are on top of your game, best advice is to look towards the USA & purchase from a reputable source.

No slight on us Brits but a glaring reality.

In any case a strong pound is in your favour at the moment!

It may seem that way but your not even scratching the surface when you look at these forums.
In my opinion,,worldwide, the majority of the best helmets came from, or are in the U.S.

That may be true ,but it would be nice to see one of the many American collections of helmets. And I must add that I realise its not easy to share your private collection with the rest of us ,and those that have shown their magnificent collections have had nothing other than praise and respect from other forum members .This being one example .Rob.

Thanks Perry I just wish you could have had a hands on this helmet. I turned it down not because I thought it wasn't real, I turned it down because it had been cleaned to hard.
Anyway enough said and I will now drop it.
I'm really looking forward to seeing one of the big US collections They must be great!!

                            Robb & Irv,

Irv, by your adamant rejection perhaps you may not be aware of the quality of some of the collectors who contributed constructively to your summons for help.

                            Regarding collections;

From personal experience the largest collections are to be seen in the USA, Perry is very correct on this. When I refer to collections, I mean collections verified as authentic. Yes there are good collections in Europe but they are not on the same scale.

Some of the largest collections irregardless of location are owned by very private individuals who do not bother with forums such as these for a number of reasons. Usually they are pofessional people who have time constraints and they are also advanced collectors in no need of independent comment. Any whom I have had the pleasure to spend time with besides being great company are blessed with the essential quality of humility.

Neither have the vast majority of their pieces been previously viewed.

Because it ain't on show does not mean it ain't out there!
