Luft M42 SD w/ Net Hooks: Documented Vet Bring Back

This is one of my favorite helmets. It is actually part of a group of items from PFC Dalton Martin. Martin hailed from west of me in Danville VA and served in heavy combat as an infantryman w/ the 9th ID. The other items include a very nice Luftwaffe belt, gas mask and compass...perhaps all from the same trooper. Also his photos. Luckily Martin liked to document his trophies. Martin was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart. Both of these cased medals are also in the group. Notice the factory "boo boo" on the skirt and the shrapnel ding on the shell...

I also collect US medal groups and was able to research Dalton's service w/ the National Archives, confirming his units and awards.

Martin's awards. Both textbook cased WWII example. These would have been his awarded sets...

Seems like quite a guy this Martin, from the jaunty pic and the awards. Worthy of more research for sure. I like the decal on the rim too, a nice touch
