no coating, what you see is my WD-40 cleaning up the helmet as it was caked in dust and dirt. I have owned-handled many DD police helmets, this one is VERY gold, as it even sparkles.

Marine police existed. They did have gold police emblems on uniforms. But I have yet to see a real golden police decal on a helmet. Not even in books!

I cannot believe you actually took WD40 to this nice helmet. You just lowered the resale value if you were planning to sell it.

I used a damp cloth to remove the grim, and I did not let my kids play with it in the sand box, PLEASE relax........ I was being funny. Too many grumpy old men here
