It's a late war, slot bolt, no decal FJ lid. I'm not an FJ guy but here it is.

Tom,
I'm no expert but looks just fine. Liner may have been removed at some stage judging from pics. Let Willi have a look for a def. answer. If you're wondering where your big 42 with 40 dated liner from you're book eventually ended up its sitting in my display case! A nice example I think of an early zinc liner in an M42 with a late war leather fitted and no signs of tampering. I just hope you sold it and were'nt burgled

But, a perfect late-war helmet would have a zinc liner band. Have never seen a "ckl" helmet with a aluminum band. In fact, only early spanner bolt helmets will have aluminum liner bands....most beyond 1941 have zinc liner bands. This helmet would probably require a handson look. I have concerns based on what I see and have heard about the crown pad. The straps also look odd (the "T" end fitting, the snap, the stitching and the way it lays in the helmet), but am not yet prepared to say they are bad.

I must say that I am at a loss here. The padding is complete and secure. It isn't flopping around loose. The liner bolts have not been removed as evidenced by the layer of aluminum oxidation "dust" that has built up on them.
I believe the only issue is that it is a late war helmet with an aluminum liner band.
If FJ's are similar to any other lid, there was a transition period from aluminum to galvanized bands. this was initially believed to be just in the year 1940. However, on standard combat helmets, including a vet buy lid, I have seen aluminum bands dated through 1942. It is also not uncommon to find an M42 helmet with a 1940 dated liner.
With this being the case, I offer it to ANYONE for hands on inspection. Willi gratiously stated that he doesn't like having lids mailed to him for inspection because of liability. I understand this perfectly, and find NO fault in this.
Anyway - there it is.
