      Lafontaine, a proper french name.

There's a German politician with the name Oscar Lafontaine (born in 43).
His father, Hans Lafontaine, German soldier in ww2 got KIA in 1945.

There's actually a lot of Germans with French names in Germany, especially in the North-Eastern part. They`re all descendants of Huguenots (French protestants) that left France for Prussia in the late 17th century.

Exactly what I've told Lou via PM (even if some left France in the 16th century)

I don't want to be opinionated but the peak of prosecution against Huguenots was under Louis XIV (l´édit de Fontainebleau) in 1685, hence 17th century.
Sure, there were also actions against protestants before that date.

Right, and as you've pointed out protestants were already localy in troubles in some french areas and moved before the big trouble: small points of history are always forgotten regarding big ones

Some protestants left France because they knew that the Edit de Nantes would be off one day or another....

It should be interesting to know any addtional info about this helmet.

                      Finding info on German soldier

                      Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input and your helpful advice Tora I just saw your post, and as the image of the name in the liner also had 714 after his name plus as I did not show all the helmet the soldier was in the SS single decal helmet on the right side that has been mostly removed say 2% left.

No one of the listed on the VB database have a clear identification of a SS rank in the description but who knows?
Probably your soldier survived to the war also if the helmet conditions appears to be well worn...!
