    Soldiers names in helmets

I was woundering on how to track down a soldiers name? The name is Karl Schmidt? How can I track it?

    H iKarl,
With a name like Smith, I can tell you first hand that it is nearly impossible to get to get info on just that. I think Karl Schmidt would be just as difficult. Do you have any other info FP number, etc.. I do have some addresses for the german archieves ..

I think the only way to track names is, when the Fieldpostnummer (FPNr) and the owners name is written in the helmet ... with such an info i could identifiy the unit and the owner (including where he is burried) from one of my helmets

Hi...Ostmark and Ty I have an M35 named gefr. Klein and his feldpost numbers (FP Nr 18293 1. Batterie Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie-Abteilung 1230
FP Nr. 27443 8. Batterie Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie-Regiment 920, from 24.2.1944 3. Batterie Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie-Regiment 1291)..I know it was picked up by a 36th texas division in Italy...but I could not find his burial or any story!!!
          Can you help me???
I searched the volksbund archive but there are too many gefr. Klein buried in Italy (Pomezia and Cassino cemetery).
