HELP! Seeking your opinions on a Luft Officer visor, but don't seem to be authorized to attach photos, so if someone would be so kind as to help out, I will gladly e-mail these to you for posting.
Salient Details: The hat has no synthetic fibers, no vinyl or other non-period materials in the construction. It is near mint (which automatically concerns me. Doeskin wool, very nice quality. The "55" size tag under the diamond is on card stock (semi-glossy) and, under binocular microscope magnification, the numerals appear to have been stamped. Stamped "Clemens Wagner", etc. on reverse (hat interior side) of sweat diamond. No ventilation holes anywhere on the sweatband. Nothing glows under UV illumination, although there is a bit of a faint, milky- green glow to the celluloid. I have not observed this on any of my other 3rd Reich period visor hats, although I did note a similar effect from the celluloid diamond on a model 1926 US visor hat during comparison testing. Cap cord slides are formed on aluminum, buttons appear to be perfectly fine for period, and the chincord has been sewn to the mohair band near the chincord buttons on either side.
It's a totally repop if that's what it is. Or, is it the real McCoy in mint condition?
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but have a set of fairly decent digital images if someone can help out. Thanks for your inputs - the hat is being offered to me along with a similar condition Luft Majors waffenrock.
THANKS!!!
