Opinions Please on this SD Transitional Helmet

I got this from a vet's estate, but really have no proof that he brought it back, as I used to see him hanging out at the local auctions.

Looks like the vet had it sitting on his garage workbench when he decided to spray paint something next to it silver, so there is overspray on the helmet. This seems so typical of the stunts vets pulled back when a helmet like this was worth $5.00, that I decided it was likely real.

The finish is rough textured and fairly complete. The decal has rust-through in spots, but not much gold toning. The liner is very clean (too clean?) and has some feldgrau paint on it.

Thanks in advance for any opinions on it. If it gets sunny here, maybe I can take some clearer pics outside.

Here's a stamping on the liner that I just found. 2nd pic shows some sweat stains and wear.

I like it.
Realy nice liner aswell.
And I guess the silverpaint it easy to remove.
Since the silverpaint is normaly not that good qualitypaint as normal paint.

Acetone should deal with the silver paint. Get out your q-tips and have at it.

Thanks for the votes of confidence. Someone told me that with a rough finish, it was for Volksturm troops as opposed to being an early transitional. Is that true?

No.
Yours was certainly repainted at the unit level, paint on the liner show it clearly IMO.
