Pictures Needed to Authenticate a SS Helmet/Decal

One of my friends has a German WWI style helmet that he acquired 15 years ago.

It has SS Runes on one side and the Party shield on the other.

Is there a list somewhere of the pictures he needs to take, in order to authenticate the helmet? (straight on shot of the decal, etc?)

    Thanks,
    Swayne

Post a clear picture of the decal, straight on is best

Thats what I thought, I will have to break that news to my friend that owns it.

Is there a reason? Just so that I can explain why?

                  Thanks,
                  Swayne

The interior condition of the shell is roughly what the exterior should look like if it was wartime original. So since the exterior is shiny black and heavily blotchy you can deduce that this has been painted over, even over the rust and pitting etc.

The decals themselves look very cheap and have no 'depth' to them which tells you that they're garbage (even if you're not up to par on all of the SS decal fakes). Even if the decals were original - if they were applied over the awful paint you would know it was post-war.

It's just a badly restored helmet I'm afraid.

Yes just a poor pair of repro decals on a beater shell.

I concur, not much else to be said.

Probably a heavily pitted relic shell under all that "stuff"
