Paul that is a fantastic looking helmet!

Interesting about the markings on the third helmet you mention.

Im glad you still have the clipping as it makes me think the helmet was painted up as a souvenir as or shortly after the war ended there are some obvious clues as to the fact the helmet was painted without the liner being present.
      Cheers

First of all Dom and Paul, awesome lids! That stack of helmets made my heart skip a beat! Let me explain to everyone that I bought this helmet very recently, and it had this newspaper clipping taped up under the dome. I scanned the clipping for a date, but saw none and removed it. Underneath was the "April 45" scratching. However, after being prompted I looked more closely at the clipping,it is from the week the war ended. I think it is possible it was painted pre-May 8 1945. I think it may have been liberated in this state, with no liner, before it could be reassembled and reissed. Of course we will never know, but thats what I like to think. The way the decal was masked off so well looks very German, and the scratched date's patina matches the surrounding paint. I notice Paul's lid had the liner removed when it was repainted, giving me some hope about this one. Thanks again for all the replies! Heres another pic.......thanks,Marc
