Please do not get discouraged. Get some reference books, Kelly Hick's SS Steel is a great reference with details of the various runes decals. There are different decals from different manufacturers. A lot of this is pattern recognition.

Regarding the decal, does not match known originals. A real decal will have fine spiderwed cracking, like alligator skin. Look at the edge of the rune and the white are, a real decal will have a razor sharp border. A 20X loupe will pull up this level of detail.

The helmet looks freshly rusted. An original will have patina. The oxidation takes on a deep rich black. The paint will have "patina" -- Hard to define that exactly, thing "character."

I am no expert. I am a novice collector but I've been studying my fanny off and that is some of what I've picked up.

It's heartbreaking to get bagged with a fake. Try and hook up with knowledgeable collectors in your area. It can be a game changer.

      Happy hunting!

I would like to thank everybody for their responses and appreciate the education. One last thing you all could help me on is clarifying the meaning of "Pocher"? Also Naval Enigma thanks for the reference book recommendation, I definetly plan on investing. The one thing I have definetly pulled away from this is that anyone will do anything they can to make a profit off of people trying to collect to preserve history whether during the good or bad times. Once again Thanks and I will definetly come prepared next time!
