KM / Heer Helmet for Discussion

Here is a very interesting helmet. The boring facts: ET66 with lot # of 145.

What makes this interesting is the liner and paint.

The liner is obviously Italian. Spacers were inserted in the front two pin holes in order to fit the liner band securely. I have taken some photos of the configuration--very interesting. No spacer is in the rear.

The paint appears to be the grey paint seen on KM helmets. The grey paint is over a factory green paint. The grey paint appears to have been applied after the helmet was worn for an extensive period of time.

The patina "looks" much different than other helmets I have--I believe as a result of being near sea air.

I am interested in your thoughtful opinions.

    Many thanks!!!

                  Grey KM?

I am having a tough time telling how it could be KM since the decal appears to be Heer? However could a KM fade to this?? Where are the more trained eye's at? Paint is looking good I think.

IMO its a heer ...the paint seems original or at least very old...the liner is very odd as is the Gray Paint....intresting lid

Its a heer decal but the helmet could have very well been used by KM personel. Also Italian liners were used as replacements in German helmets, wartime.
Was this pacticular helmet worn by a soldier in the KM or is the liner wartime replaced? We will never know for sure unless there's more information with the helmet.

The helmet is totally believable (liner & color) as a Naval used pot.
I don't think during war time the troops were as picky as we are now.

My only input is that the oxidation is dark with a whiteish build-up...in my opinion, it appears to have been near to sea air for a long time.
