Luft DD M40 with white eagle

    Hi at all,

I´d like to show you a Luft M40 DD. The strange thing is that the Luft eagle has only white lines and the rest is transparent, not like the normal eagle a white ground and black lines on it. I think this helmet is untouched and in nice condition.
Is somebody out there how can post fotos for me ?

    Kind Regards Jens

Just my opinion, but it looks to me that at one time there was an original decal under there, faded or taken off and then a repro was added on later.

                  Good helmet, bad decals.

Many thanks for posting the pics Billy.

From which you can see that the decals are bad. The national shield looks other in original as in that foto, the white is more a yellow and the other colors aslo are too bright, only in the foto.
Was this type of lw- decal ever used or can somebody show a repro of this type ?

                    Any other opinions ?

                    Thanks Jens

Pure fantasy decal and bad National decal.

Of the very few original M40DD Luft. helmets in existance they are of course painted in the Luft. blue..

                        Hallo,

I agree with Perry about the paint.
IMO the LW decal is some kind of repro

Never hav seen a original eagle like this.

                        Grüße

                        Michael

Not sure if I misunderstood some other comments, but this helmet is blue-gray. Looks like it has been coated in some manner....could just be dirt, oils and age. You can more easily see the blue-gray on the inside around the rim. I agree that the decals are bad. I suspect the eagle will easily flake off with a finger nail. Looks like it might have then been lightly coated with varnish.

Looks like the late war slate grey to me. I would guess this is a Q and was likely reissued(with no decals) likely from the Luftwaffe(the reason you only see traces of the Luft. blue on the inside only). The few original M40DD Lufts I've seen were not in this paint color.
But I could be wrong just my opinion going from the pictures..

Many Thanks for your opinions. A local collector was offering this lid, but i will let this one go. Thanks for beware.

The colour is the late salty style. Inside the colour looks like lw Blue-gray, outside its a little bit darker.

Another one is destroyed with fake decals, damned.

                              Bests Jens
