a friend of me have this SS Tropenhelm.
Sorry for the bad pictures!
But what is your first opinion to this.

Can you post pics of the inside pins area?
Any extra holes?

No expert, but the SS shields are most likely fake and added to a Luft pith helmet.
There is an original pair of shields on the SS forum.

Agree with Gary, but hard to tell good from bad with these pics, though some more knowledgable person might. Even if the shields are real, when were they attached? Detailed examination of the mounting pin area would be needed, if they are deemed original.

The SS Tropenhelm is a very scarce and rare piece. And a huge % of these are post war contrived. About the only way I would ever be comfortable with one of these is getting it direct from the Veteran that picked it up.

Agree 100% with Besslein & Dave

Also after examining the holes from the inside photo, the fake shields have been added post war. One also should remember that the holes were pre-punched before the application of the shields, so often it is impossible to tell when the shields were added. Though not in this case....good tropenhelm/bad shields
