      Here is the headband and rivets.

      I removed the improper liner

          The band and rivets were put back in to the shell. Only the leather was kept out.

            i understand; but you could have done this without removing the liner from the shell... anytime you modify an authentic piece in any way, even if just to remove and put back, you reduce its value. i would not do that

              I'm sure luftwaffenkopf is trying to say you should had left the liner band and split pins stay in the helmet and just remove the leather.
              I don't see the biggie in what you did, it has been out at least once before to attach the post war leather.
