    M35 my first helmet

I was looking for a inexpensive helmet to display with my mauser and came across this one for $140.

It was repainted a lime green color. I took off the lime green paint the best I could and this is what I ended up with.

The head band and rivets are original.

I think the leather liner and chinstrap are not.

Do you think $140 was a OK price to pay?

    Thanks

i wouldn't have payed that much... the liner is not original and it looks like it was post war repainted and then stripped again....
as long as you are happy with it, i wouldn't worry about it!
    kind regards

i think it's a great buy for a 1st helmet! the shell is original and has lots of original paint albeit stripped. the decal survived the stripping well enough and the liner band looks like a reinforced aluminum and could very well be original to the shell... repainted shells with no liner, pins or any chance of a decal underneath sell for around $100, so $140 is just right

Nice job. If it were me I would lose the leather liner and chinstrap and keep just shell and orig liner band. $140 is about right perhaps a little high but you have a nice starter helmet - well done!

Its just not my kind of helmet, i wouldnt own this, my first helmet was one that i wanted to remember, so i took my time and spent a decent amount of money . It was a named, camo, ex-chixwire with a rack # on the skirt. i cant understand why i sold that. But Chris has a cool camo combat lid because of it!

I would have had patience and saved up for the real deal. A ND helmet M42 is 3 times more expensive but at least it would be original and unmessed with.

You guys should all keep in mind that spending a great amount of money on something like a helmet can be a huge expense for most people. Jim was looking for an inexpensive helmet and $140, even for this, is a catch!

True but going for a lesser grade item is not always the wisest choice as I discovered when I started collecting.
For me 140$ is a lot for the helmet in this condition.

                  Hi Jim,

$140 could ba a fair amount to spend for a German helmet in this condition. As your collecting greed grows you will probably find this type of helets not appetible in the future...

Well helmets now stripped so no taking it back,so even if its a bit expensive it is now what he says his first helmet,so enjoy it and display it with your mauser and who knows this may start you off with the helmet bug,but next time before you buy post pics and get some opinions, rgds Dave

                      Hi Jim,

As you'll see, I like your Mauser much more than this helmet. The K98 you got a deal on. The helmet, IMHO, not so much of a deal. I, too, would've waited and saved a bit more for a nicer helmet to go with that rifle.

Guys, I understand completely where you are coming from.

I assume most active members here on the forum are hard core collectors and would prefer quality over quantity.

In my case, for the price I paid, this helmet it fits my needs for now.

I am sure that as I become more educated on fake and genuine helmets and as my interest grows, I will feel more comfortable spending more $$.

As far as this particular helmet goes, I felt comfortable spending $140 because around here, at gun shows etc, most stripped shells go for around $200 and at least this helmet had the original shell, aluminum headband, rivets and remnants of a decal.

                        Thanks for all your comments.

                          I like it
When you will move the repro liner, you will have a very nice m35 shell with a lot of paint and - the most imortant IMO - original decal . Perfect for display

take this shell for example :

                            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=415383

Went out even for 160 euros,so I think you made an agreable start with yours

I have about $175 invested in this shell, all orginal parts and I'm happy with it I got the shell for $125, then bought the original liner band and pins from Ken N. and put it together. Not everyone has to be a hard core collector to enjoy this stuff.
