    Chin strap original or repro???

    Hello,
I got this chin strap, but any collectors say it's a repro/copy of a chin strap. The other collectors say the buckle and bolt of my chin strap have the characteristic of a repro/copy. But the same buckle and bolt can be seen on this page: "Combat Helmets of the Third Reich By Thomas Kibler" (side 83, the first picture)
Now I'm baffled which opinion is the right one...

    I'm glad of answers.

    Regards, Marco

    Hello
From what I see, it is an original chin strap. Ron

Its hard to tell from that last shot. The first buckle shot looks like the "humpback" buckle design, which was thought a while back to be original but is not. The last buckle shot does not look like it has the humpback. If its the design with the hump, its no good! If the back part of the buckle is flat across the top, it may have a chance, but from what I see, it looks to be the repo Czech style "humpback" buckle.

          Hello
I was looking at the short piece and it looked like it had the tapered area where sewn together. I am looking closer and it now looks like it has the square cut like the other one previously posted. I change my original observation. Ron

GOOD POINT! Can we see the area where sewn on the short piece? The square cut or tapered cut should tell much. Thanks again Ron.

For clarification this section needs additional pictures so detach the long part carefully.

I agree , aged fake strap , you can tell right away by the shape/look of the leather .

                    Hello,
thanks for your answers. I've shot new pictures of the chin strap. I hope this pictures are better now. Additionally there's too see a light stamp marking... (better expressed there was a stamp marking...)

But it's the end of story: It's a fake, right?

                    Thanks & Regards, Marco

Leather is tappered (my fake was not). Does it have any odour to it?

IMO it is a reproduction as the buckle is wrong. Also notice the crude unfinished edge on the buckle from the die stamping process. Bill
