DAK paint looks good which leads me to a question.

I have noticed that the majority of DAK lids seems to have a coat of black paint under the yellow/brown.

Was this standard for DAK camo ?

Any reason why?

I think the black you may be referring to is actually a very dark field grey - SE for example is known to have had darker batches of field grey. Otherwise, I'm not aware of any black paint under tan camos - being a common practice.

I have to agree with Asper here. That last helmet looks more dark green, or perhaps feldgrau. Not black, anyway!

yup, dark green , not black.
a very dark colour may look like black next to a colour like tan or yellow.
thats not to say, that there wasnt any black camo helmets that were painted tan at a later date.

Not black paint but green. Thanks for clearing that up.
