Hey Ronr if you are intrested in the translation of what is on your extremely nice french ww1 helmet:
"Dans la charge dans le combat, le tembour bat" = “In the charge, during batlle, untill death the drummer drums”
“Le tembour de victoire”= the drum of victory
“La Marseillaise”= name of the French national anthem
(The lady painted with the flag is the national symbol of france--> Marianne)
“il est demoli” = it/he is destructed (refers to the enemy)
“Patrie! Famille!”= fatherland! Family
“l’ennemi peut venir, je l’attends courageux, ici pour la patrie et là bas pour vous deux.” = the enemy can come, i will wait with courage, here for the fatherland and there for u too.

New to this forum, found it when I was searching for info on this helmet. It was brought back by my Uncle, given to my father and given to me. I have had it for 25 years and just decided to see what I could figure out about it. The name on it is not my Uncle and dont know if it was a friend or what. My Uncle has been diseased for many years. This is a very interesting forum and enjoy all the info! I know they are not the best pictures.....

French Helmets

Those are great French helmets you have. The one with the paintings of the drummer and soldiers on it isn't a WW1 helmet, it's a M26 french Helmet. The other two are WW1 helmets. The medical helmet with the cross of Lorraine on it is for the Free French, not the US 79th division. Great helmets. They are a beut!

29th Division Helmet
Even though I have posted it before, I thought I would post it again here. I only have one though. Sorry for the pictures.....I have things packed away and haven't photographed it under better conditions.......won't be able to until the basement repair is finished.

Not sure of the vintage of the artwork on this M40 helmet.
What i do know is that Private James Purda was 23 years old and lived in Cleveland, Ohio when he enlisted on March 26, 1941.RonRComment
