    £12 charity shop find

Hi guys picked this up today.
What a shame about the helmet et 66 shell but do you think it was worth buying for 12 pounds just for the liner??

Absolutley! Even the 1/2 strap is a good find.

Can we see the painted shell? You might be able to strip it down.

Good buy and it most assuredly is worth stripping. Just make sure you do it carefully.

Nice. I would try stipping the paint down before you start pulling the liner out. I think I see some original colour through the scratches.

DON'T start where the decal is. Get a feel for the paint removal first.

Is that a national color decal I see in the picture? Is it on the outside of the paint or just under the paint?

What a bargain, If you can successfully remove the paint and the decal/decals are somewhat intact your investment will grow a few thousand percent! As others have said don't remove the liner, good luck, Bill

Yes and there appears to be something on the other side as well (where the eagle would be). Would have to be post-war based on that paint job.

Hi spnner, i have stripped a ton of helmets (ok maybe not an actual ton, but close!) and this is certainly a winner for me if i were to buy a post war painted helmet. The original color shows on the inside, which in 9 out of 10 times means it's good on the outside as well!

                      What you do is:
Take out the liner, it's a shame to ruin it with postwar paint.
Use acetone and a kitchen sponge (with a soft and a rough side).
Test it on the inside to get a feeling on how to do. Start with the soft end, if nothing, use the rough.
Never let the sponge dry out, or you scratch the helmet!

                      Wear gloves!
