Helmet with feldpost number label... HELP!

Hello All:

After posting for a while at the GDC forum, I decided to stretch the limits of my spare time and become addicted to this Forum as well....

I have a nice M40 helmet with a ID via a name, rank and feldpost number typed onto a paper label and glued in the rear skirt of the helmet.

The feldpost number is 40367.

I saw in another thread Tom K was able to find the unit associated with the feldpost number in his helmet. I understand there is a set of books published that serves as reference for this. Anybody know where these books may be purchased? (I'd love to buy them for future reference)

In the meantime, Can anybody help me with this particular FPN?

Welcome to our little world.......

From 20.12.1941 ypor FP Nr. belonged to Kommando 416 Infanterie Divison. Depending on the date during its existance it also belonged to other elements of the Division such as Inf.Div. Nachschubtruppen 416, Feldgendarmerie Truppe 603, however 10.7.1944 it belonged solely to Kommando 416 Infanterie Divison again.

The books are "Die Feldpostübersicht 1939-1945" by Norbert Kannapin..ISBN 3-7648-1183-8. I believe Detlev Niemann normally has them in stock for around €245 ($300, £175).

Thank you very much Ian. That only inspires me more to buy these books. The cost seems excessive but the research material is invaluable.

What do you think is meant by "Kommando" 416 division? What is a "kommando" unit?

Kommando (Kdo.) means H.Q......unfortunately not special operations or Brandenbürgers!!!

Technically it is the same thing, however was not Stabsquartier used for higher formations such as Heeresgruppen and OKW?
Saying that I am sure I have seen reference to it at Division level....but anyway as far as I know they mean the same thing, H.Q. but there might be slight differences in how it was used!?!?!?

I have a helmet marked L.N.A. I/15 Stabsquartier L.K.K.V. I'm not really sure what to make of it. It seems the Germans had a hundred meanings for each initial and military phrase. Any Ideas??
