SS Transport Visor

Hello All -

I am presenting this visor for your input. The piping is transport blue, thicker on top, the center cap band is black wool. Opine away!

The piping is of the standard wool variety on the top welt, but the bottom two are a flatter type, almost like Rayon. They do not glow under black light.

Don...the cap appears to have been re-lined and a period visor stitched in...poorly I might add! Notice the ragged edges to the silk lining etc.

This is a poor attempt at the old fraud of 'reupholstering' parts from a doner cap to the 'rare' and expensive one. Try pulling out the cap spring...the lining just may come with it!

Don, just another thought...I have never encountered a seam that ran down the 'front' of an original cap and crooked to boot!

Just my own thought, for what it's worth...

In addition to the points mentioned above, I seem to recall that the introduction of this blue piping came rather late in the war, and I seem to recall as well that the use of colored pipings on Waffen SS visors was discontinued relatively early in the war.

If my memory is correct, than it would seem highly unusual for any Waffen SS visor to be seen with a piping that was not utilized until after branch of service pipings was discontinued in the SS.

Jeez, Guys, is my wife gonna be pissed when she hears you criticized her sewing skills!!

Two other damning things on this cap seem to be the wool band, which acording to Adrian only showed up on EM/NCO type visors, and the fact that it has colored piping, as those seem to be the über-rarest of them all!
