    More pitfalls.

    Hello all,
in my "Fake/Research" box i have a chinstrap which has what appears to be an original buckle stitched to a post war 47' dated Czech army chinstrap. The leather work looks wrong (and smells too new), plus the studs are post war stock as well. I'll post a photo later today.

    Patrick.

            Patrick,

Listed 3 aluminium examples original to M35 DDs, not all 3 are exactly the same shape, yours is just another example of an authentic piece.

The wear to the metal, leather edge and stitching is very difficult to fabricate.

              Hello Billy,
thanks for posting the further original examples, that's the type i was used to seeing..or more to the point , what i looked for previously in a chinstrap buckle, so this thread has been very educational for me

Here are a few shots of the odd Czech "Hybrid" fake/postwar strap i have.

              First, the buckle...looks ok.

Next, the stitching. The stud is much brighter and shiny in the flesh too.

And finally, the Czech overstamp. The biggest red flag on this piece is the strong smell of freshness to the leather, plus the leatherwork itself is considerably thinner than my originals too. So this begs the question, are these outright fakes using up a small store of original buckles and having bogus German and Czech stamps added as part of the sales pitch, or are they genuine Czech army surplus straps fresh from storage. Judging by the smell of this one (which shouldn't smell like a new leather jacket would, if it dated from 1947) i'm inclined to the former.

thanks for all the help again,

                  Patrick.
