    Chinstrap buckle opinions.

    Hello all,
this buckle is to be found on my latest helmet purchase (my last for 2003 no doubt ).
The thing is, this particular buckle is very square in shape as opposed to my other originals which have rounded corners, and have a stylistic "D" shape to them. The leatherwork, stitching, and rest of the hardware (Studs) i'm more that happy with..but the buckle shape is bugging me.
The strap is dated 1939, so is this an earlier type buckle shape that i'm not used to seeing?
I've seen a new batch of chinstrap repro's doing the rounds of the UK scene which have this shape..but they are much thinner than this one.
After considering everything my head says it's OK..but my collector paranoia is going "Hmmm......."
    Opinions welcome!

    Patrick.

Looks like a nice original earlier strap to me...

Hi Patrick, I cannot fault your chinstrap either. I know how you feel, with all the rubbish for sale nowadays, you get paranoid.

How about showing us the rest of the lid ?
          Cheers, Ade.

              Thanks.

              Hi Andy,Ade and Brian,
thanks for taking the time to reply, my paranoia has been silenced
I'll post some shots of the rest later in the week as it's getting dark now, and artificial light turns the whole colour scheme into a flat featureless mess...

              thanks again,

              Patrick.

PS. Brian..a Coen brothers fan? You are a man of style and taste sir

                Some more to review please.

Think this is a good one. Looks like Aluminium, but buckle and studs are steel. Dated 1943.

Most probably bad one from a strap with infamous -Lohmannwerke 1941- stamp

Copied from ebay. Mint, but the maker-stamp is not on the list of the faked ones so far.

                            Hi Johannes!

The buckle on the first one looks acceptable, but to be honest
the leather and stitching look very repro to me. And IMO all of
the rest look like "ebay specials".

Thank-you very much Patrick! And you, my friend, are an
                            excellent judge of character!

Brian you are "right on"! I sent 10 'original' straps back to Manion's in (about) '78 and the retort was....." But Ron bought these in Europe himself!" It's been going on forever!

                              Dave
                              Regards,
