No story, It does have that look though, you think who would put the yellow and there are some pink dots , a guy being creative in the field? A nut trying to ruin a helmet? someone sanded a small spot on the other side to see what was there, and there is no eagle, or no swaz shield.

Dave, I collect camo helmets. And I have learned to look for age in camo paint such as dings, scratches and, above all, a certain patina in the paint. I do not see this at all on this helmet. All I see is a helmet painted no more than 10 years ago with ridiculous colors. And Before the helmet was painted someone put an SS decal on it, then painted it over and then uncovered it. The oldest trick in the book is to cover a fake SS decal with paint to make it look old.
Also, did you say the underside of the helmet has luftwaffe blue paint on it? If so, it is more credible to think someone recently "enhanced" a common Luft helmet, than to think somehow the SS reissued a Luftwaffe helmet during the war.
I hope you did not pay a fortune for that helmet.
Regards,
John

SS camo
Here is one that I got from a vet. If you use a magnifying glass you can see the SS runes through small cracks in the paint. By the way , the paint only cracked where the decal was.The paint is not as shiny as the picture may show. It wasn't sold to me as any thing fancy.Attached Files
