    Benz factory helmet...??

    Hey folks,

I know its not a cool SS or Para but since I own a Benz I thought it was kinda neat..

Has anyone seen many of these?? they dont have the detail as a combat helmet but its OK to leave out so the neighbors dont freak out when we are having some beers..

    Any comments??

    Chris

Nearly all you see of these are post-war trumped up civic helmets.
From the pictures I feel its the same here, sorry.

As of yet ..no Book has really dealt with these Factory Helmets so , until some in depth research is done …no one really knows much about them.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
Like Perry…I also trust very few of them , especially the ones with the Factory Decals right on the front where the “Luftschutz” Decal would normally go. The only correct Factory Helmets I’ve seen were all more of a Black/Blue color and had the side decal and some had a Factory property decal on the inside skirt (which yours has)….some still even had their Luftschutz Decal in front. After the War , they were stripped/repainted (some other colors) and Logos applied or even painted on the front.<o></o>
Your Benz Helmet looks correct and I’d be interested to see it in hand.<o></o>

Here's a period shot of a Factory "Fire Police" ready room where you can see the Swas on one side , and the Factory Logo on the other side .

Of course ...Luftschutz had their own way of doing things ...here's the IG Farben Logo for example --

I found my first Farben Helmet 15 years ago ...back then most collectors have never seen the logo IG Farben used during the War and wouldn't know what it was. so ...a faker would gain nothing by researching what design was used by Farben (or other Companies) and creating a decal. Why spend the time ?...more money to be made faking SS stuff right ?
So these were not fantasy items , they did exsist ...but they were also used by the factories post war once they were de nazified

                      /

I agree with the previous comments. I have been collecting NS civilian helmets for nearly thirty years and have seen more reproduction WLS/Factory helmets in the past two or three years than the combined number of authentic pieces in the previous thirty years. The on-line venues in particular have been heavily flooded with them. It's best to approach these with caution, the decals should follow period manufacturing techniques. Don

I know a guy on E bay that sells this type of helmets, he goes by the name of turketur and he is based in the Netherlands. Over the past month he sold several of these helmets from different factories..MB, Messerchmitt, Krup I believe they are originals..

Yes …and I think many of the examples we see are the post war examples the Factories used. And as I said ,I think one key in recognizing the post war models is the location of the Logo.<O></O>
We never see a Farben Helmet with the Logo on the front ..they are always on the side. And if I found one with a front Logo , I wouldn’t trust it or even label it as a Post War example since we know Farben was closed & dismantled by the Nurnberg Trials …and in 1952 they existed only as a Trust (because of Property Holdings).<O></O>
By 2003 they declared Bankruptcy and ceased to exist. <O></O>

Now here's a Wartime example from the Zundapp Factory -- no front decal
