I've seen camo M35/40/42's fetch those numbers but to me this one just doesnt have it...
For those that may not know this has nothing to do with originality but what makes a high end camo..

Certainly is Insane! I got my sweet camo M42 for under $200- so certainly they are not worth much more than that!
Sorry, I had to spread some dry humor. I wonder if the bidder is actually going to pay or if they are just trying make a fuss for the seller, I've heard of it happening before.

        WoW, It went that high.
I hope he gets a document that it was once owned by Rommels son with that helmet.

Sorry, but someone slipped with the house paint.............

IMO, this is a stunning, super-nice helmet. However, I never dreamed it would bring $2100+! I dont consider this to be a barometer of market prices, just an auction gone crazy.

I also thought that someone slipped with the white house paint on this one.

Wow! When I looked at that one Wednesday evening it was only up to $1200. It nearly doubled in price overnight.

                Calvin's right:

Auction fever. Someone got it in his head that he just had to have that helmet and got caught up.

I tend to agree with you guys.
That is a great helmet. I would have LOVED to own it.
Timing for me is not right with Christmas right around the corner, but I would
not have paid that much for that helmet and I will go the max for a Camo I really want.

It is a great one though.

Don't get me wrong either, it is a nice camo on a DD helmet and would still be expensive. But I just dont think it has the look to fetch that price...there's some out there that can do it though..

I tried to have a look, but saw a "Invalid Item" screen. Is this auction gone???

                        Guys,

Auction was pulled after the event due to a prohibited item displayed on it!

No doubt that this one is a beauty and worth whatever one was prepared to pay, it is all a matter of relativity, a very, very sweet M35 Camo.

Whilst everyone recognises the quality of the piece it is a matter of individual taste as to how high you rate the appearance. Quite evidently enough guys with dollars in their pockets are testimony to how high they rated the look of the piece. My own opinion is that it is a captivating item and one that defintely has that 'LOOK'

If I recall the decal was not shown, wonder why they still pulled it? Someone complained I bet, low bidder maybe?
In the end Billy is right, if you wanted this helmet that is what it would have cost you...camos can appeal to collectors in different ways sometime. Like I mention before, it's like ones taste in art..

                            Perry,

Unfortunately I no longer have the image of the decal under the light green paint, but it was 100% visual through the thin layer of paint. I will try to see if I can get another image of it. It is only with seeing this that one can gain a true appreciation of the piece.

I was following it too because it was such a nice example and Larry M. was the high bidder. I feel sorry for him...he was the high bidder throughout the auction only to lose it to a "sniper" from Paris at the end.

The Heer decal was definitely visible through an opaque layer of tan paint...as was most of the national shield. I noticed the seller called it an M40 in his narrative but it was an M35. If it really was a DD M40 it would have gone even higher, I'm sure.

Just goes to prove that there are people out there willing to spend big bucks on the right piece.
