We'll pull it out tomorrow and Vonn will take another look. Thanks.

Anyone have a reference? We've had a few calls on this one, but seems to be all conjecture (certain style decals for specific makers?) - we're going with page 48 of Hicks' "SS Helmets".

I know originating from "the woodwork" doesn't prove anything, but Vonn likes what he sees with this one and we're going with it. The winning bidder will have the same hands on advantage of assessing the helmet.

As always, feel free to contact us directly about any item. We're happy to speak one on one to address any questions. Direct e-mail to the description department is: kkhatfield@manions.com. Also, 866.626.4661 - ext. 1016 Mon-Thur 9 am to 4 pm CST.

Hopefully there is not a winning bidder bc the helmet is a dog.

The page you reference is incorrect.... as page 48 relates to transitional helmets (in either book SS-Steel or SS Helmets - The History, Use and Decoration of the Helmets of the Black Corps)... or maybe I'm looking at the wrong book. Please recheck the reference page for us or tell me that I'm looking at the wrong book. Maybe pages 146 or 150 in SS Helmets?

At this point, if I'm looking at the same references, I don't see any relationship to this helmet and the examples in SS Helmets. Please reference it so we can compare.

                Regards,

                Jim

1993 SS Helmets, A Collectors Guide page 48, and 1999 SS Helmets a Collector's Guide Volume II edition, pages 112 and 113. Both by Kelly Hicks.

If you're able, give a call and talk to Vonn Krueger at the above number and extension for further discussion.

No need to call Vonn Krueger. This decal and style of fake camo is well documented. I think there is nothing more to add to this discussion. Good luck to the buyer.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but doesn't the "round bottom" area of the rune throw up an immediate red flag?

Doesn't really matter though......the camo paint is bad.

Here's what a real one looks like for reference.

100% correct Larry, anyone with a basic knowledge of SS decals knows the 2nd pattern round bottom fakes instantly when they see one. They are good quality and really seem to adhere to the surface well but the shape missed out bad. Kelly Hicks told me He thinks they are of Czech origin . To the manions guys who are participating in this discussion, you seriously need to take responsibility for what you are selling, it is bordering on fraud IMO. I have seen several alleged SS helmets that a collector local to me has purchased through your firm. All are fakes. In my collecting group your firm has ZERO credability in 3R German helmets. Just the prices alone tells the sad story, that helmet is either worth $200 or $20000, there is no grey area. Regards, Bill

                          $20,000 - really?

The helmet has been removed from the auction for further research. We sincerely appreciate the educated opinion provided by WA forum members.

Hello all - Stick to the discussion related to the helmet in question.
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

                                Ralph,

Why the heavy handed "stick to the message." Doesn't the reputation of the source come into play, especially in light of the sources response to the thread? I have seen a lot more venomous posts about dealers, etc in the past where nothing was mentioned. I just found your thread curious. Isn't the opinions of dealers something we discuss especially when it is connected with "100% one looker" bad helmet?
