I think that we shall use our opinions on the helmet, if it is original or not.
Value, etc is better to take through PM's......

Still want's to see better pictures of the rune decal, outdoor pic, close up and straight. + inside pics of paint and liner/liner band.

Gee, I would like to buy a M35 DD A-SS helmet for 25K in superb condition. I may even pay more!

        Asper,

If 50k is what someone with endless cash will pay for an SS single decal camo, I have one or two that I would love to sell them! I could use the money because I just paid $36,705 for a wound badge in black, and I just missed out on the lotto 6/49. I am hoping my Tim Horton's Roll Up The Rim to Win cups pays off big time however, as I am getting sick of free donuts.

Seriously, I said in my initial response, it is subjective and most certainly I respect what others say about the matter.

You may publicly postulate and hypothesize on what I have or have not paid to "assemble" nevertheless the value on a real bonafide and unquestionable black Allgemeine DD SS helmet is more than a non black DD Allgemeine DD SS helmet -- and when dealer websites and many private collectors in the past years have sold helmets within a variable price range to others then that seems to me to be the "going rate" regardless of what my allegedly flawed fiscal sensibilities are.

The fact remains a black DD SS Allgemeine M35 in midrange condition sold for $25,000 on Bob's website. Whether a bazillionaire or a pauper bought the helmet or what you think or I think it is worth, that is what one sold for to a very nice gent and I know of another that sold "behind the scenes" for over 23k recently. Kelly Hicks has a hand rendered blackie transitional for 13.5 right now which if not for the current economic climate I doubt would have even hit the streets as these get traded amongst collectors and almost never see the light of day.

Tomorrow they may be worth $1.49. Who knows.

Some collect to make a buck. Some collect for the passion. Some for both. I am firmly in the "passion" camp, and love the study and history of the period. It's a great hobby to be in, with some great people to be associated with and great friends worldwide to share the "love" of collecting, the opinions, history, theories and learn from one another advancing the hobby inasmuch as one can give back.

Sadly it is when threads take a turn like this that the passion is quelled somewhat and one asks if it is better to move into collecting Elvis hair follicles or Bill Clinton DNA samples.

I have no axe to grind with you on this or anything else Asper, life is too short to get bent out of shape over what old steel pots are worth and wish you well.

        Cheers,
        Doug

          Rare ? Yes.
Attractive ? No , in my opinion.

Not one that would make me dig deep in my pockets. In fact I don't think I'd go for it if offered to me. Think what else you can buy with that money.

I agree Frank! IF real, this one would be hard to place a value on because rarity is more than offset by condition.

I agree with what you are saying Doug, I am sure most of us collect due to a fascination and interest in the period and to remember and respect all the young men who were cut down in their prime mostly only because they were born in this time of history. To argue and bicker over things so small in comparison is hardly worthwhile...... I like the helmet that started the thread, even though the condition might be poor it's historical value is no doubt much greater, regards, Bill

Well said Bill. OK if anyone has any idea of the value yhen please PM me. I just need a ball park figure thats all. As I have been offered this helmet I just wanted some piece of mind that I was not paying over the odds for it.

To me, the helmet has a "unnatural" look to it in every picture posted thus far. However the pictures are poor.
If this was all I had to go on my advice would be to pass.
