Was there a standard finish on these, or were they painted to order for the customer?

Export M35's? Not sure I know what your talkig about. Are you referin to the ones used by Norway? Or the "tan" ones? -
Hi Perry. I'm referring to the contracts as for Nationalist China. That's the only one i know of for sure. I've seen pics of Spanish troops wearing
them (not the German-style Spanish helmets) in the Civil War, but i don't know if these were an actual contract purchase, or simply part of general war supplies provided by the Germans. I thought they might be contract, because they have a dark semi-matte paint instead of the gloss light-colored paint the Wehrmacht was using at the time.Comment

I'm not sure on those first model35's that went to China. I've never held one but from the photo's I've seen they seem to be a gunmetal type color. I assume the far majority of these helmets never left China. You never hear of them in a collection...Comment

I recall seeing good pics of one of the Chinese a while back, i think in a US auction catalog....they are definitely scarce. The paint seems to be a fairly light shade semi-matte. Good pic in Ball's Mauser Miltary Rifles, pg 40.Comment
