Hi Peter, here is my opinion. I think the decals are both fake. The SS runes I would like to see a close up on but I am not happy with the shape of the shield, it looks very rounded to the bottom? There are a batch of Czech made fakes which exhibit this feature. The white circle to the Party sheild looks very oversized.
The winter white wash and the name painted in the rim both look suspect to me as well. Sorry.

I agree with Ade. Looks like it was probably a real helmet that was doctored up to become a white-wash SS helmet. These fakers have no scruples.

Hi Peter, I have looked at your decal pics. I am very very sorry to say that both are 100% fake. I have followed all your threads and I have really felt for you. No one here likes to tell someone else that an item is bad. There is no pleasure in it. We have all been there ourselves.
Try and get a refund. If the dealers involved will not give you a refund because they say the item is "original" , offer to sell it back to them? Take a loss if need be and put it down to an expensive lesson. Name them here if you get no joy with them. It will do there business a lot of harm.

Is there any honor for me in this?
The ONLY bad thing i found about the helmet, when i bought it, was that the decals was not standing straight up.

I will not give up on collecting. I will continue, but i will get me new sources for my militaria, and i´ll post here before i buy anything.

Peter, perhaps you could put together a book on how to spot SS fake helmets.

This is a serious suggestion. There are other books on spotting other types of 3rd Reich fakes that have done pretty well. You could turn a bunch of bad mistakes into a nice profit.

The white circle on the National shield is much too big which is the most obvious deficiency. View legitimate examples to witness the difference.

Regarding WSS helmets. I would highly recommend buying from a recognised and reputable dealer or other reputable source that you can trust. Place a wanted add in the relevant section of the E stand is an excellent way of alerting fellow collectors to your needs. You will find that people contributing on this and similar forums take pride in what they release. The exercise is open and transparent which assists buyer and seller.

Unfortunately all things WSS are at a premium, few bargains are to be had by even the most keenest and experienced eye. It is a matter of paying the price in order to get that nice authentic piece in your hands, study it, handle it, examine it and appreciate the educational tool that it now is.

Dismayed but not despondent Peter! Keep the faith, more good guys than bad.
