Walt, thank you for sharing the distinction between the two types of papers, would it be possible for you to post some pics of them? I for one have never seen capture papers in good condition, though I know they exist, I think it would be educational to see some.

Here's a couple of my capture papers, the first is a Certificate of Retention and customs Declaration, some sort of booty must have been carried home in those duffle or kit bags! The second is the standard certificate for post home items. Tim.

            Ekman,

Officers were bound by the same regulations.

Marrying the paper up with the helmet is the tricky part, unless serial numbers and an accurate description is documented it is a correlation that the most sceptical of collectors may not buy into. It can be too loose a connection.

Here's a scarce war time capture paper for a Japanese rifle as an example of the papers that were issued in the Pacific area. I also have one from the ETO similar to the one above for the Luger, Ray

I have a nice set of papers similar to that one for a Lt. Col. who wanted to bring home 2 bayonets, 2 grenades, 1 canteen, and 1 helmet (Japanese), same type of information but a little different layout. Along with that is a paper signed and dated by a surgeon stating "I certify that the native and Jap items enclosed herewith have been sterlized and are safe for entry into the USA". I have the helmet and canteen but the other items are long gone.

I can't post pictures but if anyone would wish a photo just send me an email and I can try to scan them for you.
