Erel Generals Visor

Hi Guys,

This is the week for buying hats for me I guess. Here is another one I'm being offered. I'v got a tunic that's been needing this. What do you think? Sorry for the somewhat dark pics but they're all I have from the seller so far.

Primo cap John! I had one nearly identical but it was a 'Privat' and the
badges were silver. You can't go wrong here, especially if you have the tunic.

Hello John...Wer're close enough for a visit! Do not buy it without an inspection.
Erel caps have been 'reupholstered' for years.
An Erel cap is a $5k item and if offered for less you must be cautious.

Brian - I like the "Privat" also. I've been waiting for a nice one of these with bullion insignia. For my general, it has to be an Erel.

Dave - Wish I could inspect it but it's overseas. It will come with a 10 day inspection period, but the more comfortable I feel beforehand, the better. And so we're neighbors.

does the seller give an inspection period? Dave's 100% right about the refirbished Erel's! I got one from a dealer in Germany that was an original Erel hat interior, but they had "build" an ultra rare hat around it. It was a very good forgery, except that the insignia was a tad off. The eagle and wreath were night an day compared to this one.

It looks nice, see if you can get an inspection, handle it, than have a few other people take a look for you--3-4 opinions never hurt

Hat fabric

One characteristic I always look for is the fabric quality of a visor hat. Good ones exhibit a fabric grain shift on the upper front to the peak of the hat. Notice how the fabric grain on the left half is upright, and that the grain on the right half slants towards the right.

Thanks C.C. The only problem is that the one I'm looking at is Doeskin not Trikot so the grain is not very obvious. I will post better pics when I get the cap. By the way, nice Luft Generals.

Yes, I struggle with digital images also, but it is essential to be able to tear one apart when that is the primary evidence for buying. I could not tell the fabric of the army general's hat. But I would like to comment on the insignia. The eagle, is what I refer to as a perfect "Fuhrer's" eagle. Dimensionally, it is very close to the one on Hitler's hat. The wreath and cocade are also exceptional. If the insignia is bullion, it is the nicest pair on a general's hat that I have seen.
