    M40 Quist 1944, do M42 Q exist ??

    Hernn,

I want to start a little debate about te following thing. Although some collectors say that the Quist firm produced M42's, i never saw one in the 20 years that Y collect German helmets. Bear staded this conjecture is his book (pag. 298 top) Here some photo's of a M40 produced by Quist in 1944. The liner has never been removed and is stamped 1944. The inside of the leather is stamped 3-44 and Rbn. 0/0250/0917. (see also Bear pag. 321)The most interesting feature is (imo) the location of the firm stamp. This is also to see in late M42's.
My questions: When did this location changed: mid or late 1944?
Are there known M42's stamped Quist ?

    Regards,

    Erwin

i think you are wrong in saying that the liner has not been changed.
that leather has not lived with that helmet since the war.
stop looking at the split pin rivets, its not the only way to tell if a liner has been changed.

If you had been around this forum for awhile, there wouldn't be any reason for you to think this was debatable.
Quist made both 40s and 42s at the same time. There have been several 42s that have been shown here (I had one once) and while untouched period examples are far and few between, there are many shells that were post war refinished out there.
I've probably seen a dozen examples, all size 64 with DN#s in the 500s (with one exception).
I have never seen anything other than a size 64 so I think there's a good chance that they were only produced in that most common size.

                  Hey Erwin,

nice untouched M40 you are showing !
As far as I know the M42 Quist helmets exist but are very very late war and very rare.
The helmet you are showing is a 1944 quist helmet, nice stamped aswell.
Marc, do you have some links to threats with M42 quist helmets ?

In the short time Ive been collecting Ive seen perhaps two Q M42s that Im sure were correct war time produced, and I try to keep an eye out for one. Below is my ND Q M40 that I always thought was very late war produced with some leftover parts (liner). This one is rear marked size 66 #T4586. It has a pigskin liner with a DRP1943 liner band.

Yes, there are Q stamped M42s. I'm sure some pics will be posted.
