How do you display your helmets?

Do you prefer the heads special stands or just putting them on the shelf. For some of you I'm sure buying heads for every helmet would be expensive not to mention space consuming.

My helmets sit directly on the shelf. I know some collectors worry about the paint on the rims but I think that is better than risking damage to the liner by resting the helmet on some kind of stand. However I do agree that spiked helmets should probably be propped up on something; not that I've actually taken the time to come up with anything for mine.

I sort of take the approach to collecting that I'm the final owner of this junk and as long as it outlasts me I'm happy!

You can buy some yards of military style wool fabric, cut it in the shape of the shelves and place the helmets on top of it. This will prevent paint damage in the rim area.

I place mine on more or less tall empty bottles, and place pictures or other objects in front of them to hide the bottle; or els wrape some camo material around the bottle. I find it looks pretty good; doesnt risk damaging the leather, and lets the chinstrap hang loosely without being distorted or whatever. If not counting those that are stored in my wardrobe and those that are in several piles in different places around the house, the helmets that are really displayed simply sit on the shelves The lower rim paint usually is already gone long, long ago, so putting them carefully on the flat shell does not damage them at all IMO

At the moment, I also have them resting on their rims on a shelf. Eventually I would like to get wooden stands that have a padded area at the top that will rest up inside the dome of the helmet. That way the chinstrap can hang free and there will be absolutely no stress to the liner system.

...Good idea about the stands, what exactly will happen to your helmet rims if they are sitting on a wooden shelf?

I use a grid wall system, used in retail display. They have purpose made millinery attachments/hangers. See the following link:

The total cost of all fixings, hangings etc was around £45.

For now mine are on shelves and in cupboards. I'm looking at buying a few glass heads as well for display.

Here's a photo of my helmets. I recently adjusted those damn Metro shelves to make room for more stuff that I picked up. What a pain. I need more room so I can get more junk!
