Hello
Here is a fine first pattern Tropenhelm that has seen alot of sun. Until just recently this has been residing in one of the more remarkable DAK collections in the States. Had my eye on it for a few years and when the chance came...
Has a very supple leather sweatband with makers stamp. Dated '42. An Assman eagle (thanks for info Matt) and original cotter pins, chinstrap etc. What makes it unusual are the GI's names and Campaigns which are written on the dome and rear brim. France Africa, Algiers, Sicily, Salerno, & Cassino, which may imply the 45th Inf Div by these locations...? This may have been taken in Italy but its quite possible it was taken in North Africa ? based on the amount of fading from the sun and leather sweatband
Am also trying to determine if the GI that wrote the Campaigns names also wrote his name on the dome or not ? Matching the handwritting etc ?
As always all comments welcome.
Tim
