      Hi all,wow very interesting topic
      just asked my girl about these helmet covers as she is a vintage fabric
      seamstress and her only comment was the thread in the covers looks modern
      but Edwin if you can remove a very small piece of thread and burn it,it will either burn to a dusty soot (original natural thread) or it will ball like modern synthetic thread.

        At The end we have confirmation that factory manufactured sumpftarn covers exist. Only god knows how many of these were trowned in the bin because consensus was they were never produced.

          it burns to dust, i am the new owner and i am am very happy with it
          i doubt edwin would sell a duff item ,regards will
