Hello Brian,

While some people would tell you it can't happen, in my opinion it is possible to have a aluminum band in an M42. It by no means should be considered the norm.

I have seen two or three over the years that appear original issue to the helmet. They are either old stock being used up or old stock replacement liners from the unit's supply.

I would agree with that...It also reinforces the theory you cant date a helmet soley by the band..
