    M16 Camo Fake?

    Guys-

Forgive me as I am totally new to this.

What's the feeling on this helmet?

It gives me a bad feeling, however I'm still not educated enough to draw any concrete conclusions. Opinions?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Brian,

Based on those pictures I see nothing wrong with it...

Finding one with a full liner and chinstrap is rare and this one looks pretty. I'm not 100% about the camo paint, but it looks pretty good. The light color looks as if it might have been chemically aged, but I'm not certain.

Chinstrap also looks in a bit to good a condition compared to the liner.Price?

No price at this point - it's on ebay.

I have submitted a few questions to the seller and also requested additional images. I will post that info if and when I receive it.

Hi Brian, I have looked at these pics several times. I must agree with Ty that the "yellow" sections of the camo look strange? I think a hands on inspection would be needed on this one to be sure. Maybe worth a risk if there is a resonable inspection period?
                  Cheers, Ade.

It's tough to tell from the images (lighting and all), the light painted portions in the pattern may be a tan, or even white, again hard to tell. I have some imperial camouflaged helmets with both of these colours in the pattern, if I can find the pic's I'll scan them in.

It's only as good as the seller, but try to get a return priviledge, based on the images, this one will probably need a hands-on inspection. The one area that raises a flag is in the back, to the wearer's left. It may be the lighting, but it looks like the wear line in the rim area to the tan is sharp and very vibrant (I'd like to see it very dark there from oxidation, and transition more smoothly rather than a bright and fresh looking separation).

I have found several good helmets on Ebay, but you have to be carefull (and not just there either). One M17 "camouflaged" helmet looked great on the monitor, and I secured a return priviledge from the seller. When I got it, it took all of 2 seconds to see it wasn't a period camouflage finish. And the seller was away on a "mountain bike" trip in Europe everytime I tried to contact him.

I want to thank all you guys for your help with this helmet. I find these Camos to be quite interesting, however I'm still in the early stages of learning about them.

I decided to pass on this one... it just seemed to be too much of a risk, especially for my untrained eye.

The seller told me that if it didn't reach his reserve (I guess it was $500) that he was going to try to unload it at the JAG. I wonder if he had any luck.

By the way, here is his link...

                        Thanks again guys!!
