help with M 34 overseas Schiffchen please

Guten Tag,

I have been offered this Schiffchen which is in my hands at the moment. Fabric and insignia seem to show honest wear and the insignia look good to me. They are machinestitched to the cap. Inside is a faint, illegible and only partly visible stamp. These are the things wich bother me:

1) Seen from the top the front of the cap is as narrow and pointed as the end and not broad and rounded. This seems to be rare but I have seen it before, so this might be OK.

2) The vent holes seem not to be “textbook” from the inside.

3) The soutache is not of the material I would expect. It now looks grey, but at the back, were protected from the elements, it is white. It was attached by hand so that You cannot see the seam from the front but only on the back of the flap. The ends do not penetrate the flap through small holes as usual.

On the other hand. If I would like to fake a cap than I would use the standard material for the soutache and not one that rises questions.

What do You think? Sorry if I am asking for asnwers that might be obvious for others, but I stil have to learn a lot.

You mentionned some good points on which I would pass on this cap.
I'm convinced that things like this should really 'speak' to you. This schiffchen doesn't, the lining doesn't look right at all, I wonder what it is exactly? No (honest) wear at all to the lining either. The airvents are not correct and the russian braid either (hand-applied or not). The wool texture looks okay, but that doesn't mean anything...could be made of original uniform cloth. Can't tell much about the eagle, but all this points should be enough for me not to buy this one.

Hi,
I agree with Jan. Too many wrong things (insignias, Soutache, air grommets, lining). I would pass too.

I had a bad feeling from the start, but it's better to get confirmation here. I returned it without any problems. Jan, I think You showed Your Schiffchen before in this Forum, but I fell in love with it again.
