    Army and KM decals

    Hi,

Please could I have some opinions on these two decals, the army decal is on a helmet I am looking at buying and the KM one is on a friend has asked me to look at for him.

Sorry to keep asking loads of questions and asking for opinions but I am just getting into helmets.

    Best Regards
    Phil

      Here's my thoughts on both...

The top one (Heer) I'm not keen on... all the key areas are conveniently damaged (head, eye and claw). I'd be careful with that one.

The second one looks good but I would say is a toned Heer and not a KM decal.

        Thanks Rich,

That helps a lot, howdo you tell if a decal is a KM or a toned Army?

        Regards
        Phil

Oh oh! I can see "Toned Heer verses KM" debate flaring up again!

I'd say some toned Heer decals can be as yellow as KM but they don't have the depth that a KM decal has. It's very difficult to explain and God knows we've tried it many times!! Check out a few of these threads (or try a search for KM decal and see how many threads there are).

I have 2 unlaquered Heer decals that are worn about as much as the one you show, but both have more of a silver hue than pure white.

Not trying to complicate matters but here is a KM and a toned Heer... very difficult to tell which is which but just goes to show how dark the toned Heer decals can get

By the way both decals you posted are original ones Phil. The first one is a Bigfoot, helmet is a Q isn't it
The second one has been discussed earlier here on the forum. It is a variant but an original decal!
                  Nothing to worry about here

                  Kind Regards,
                  Dennis

Rich, I agree with you on the first of Phil's decals : I would take it with caution, but anyway, it looks OK to me.
About the second, I'm sure it's a KM, not a toned Heer. Moreover, this one was debated before if I remember well, and we were a little fast on the trigger IMO... So, is it your friend that got it on eBay, Phil ?

Thanks guy's why is this hoby so confusing?

Brian => I agree the decal does seem very white, I'm not sure why this is.
Rich => Thanks for the links they have made good reading and helped.
Den => Thanks for the pics I'm not sure if its a Q or not as the dealer didn't say.
Edelweiss => I'm not sure if it has been on before or not, as I hadn't asked my friend, I'll ask him if he got it of ebay.

                      Thanks again.

                      Best regards
                      Phil

Phil, you can call me Chris...
Yep, the seller is a member of this forum (Kraut-stuff), and his helmet is gone on eBay a few weeks ago. I would have liked to see this lid in person...
