M35 Dome marking

Hello everyone,

my first post, great forum, very enlightening for a novice collector.
I have a question about my one and only helmet. I have a luftwaffe SD 1935 helmet, my granfather bought it back from germany when he was de-mobbed.
I recently noticed a marking inside the crown where one would normally see a dome stamp. The mark is a single capital D, No other mark is present- it is stamped into the metal in the way size markings are stamped into the skirting.
Could anyone tell me what this mark means ?

thanks for the reply, unfortunately i don't have pic posting privilege yet, i'm not a paid up member. I have both your books BTW, they are fantastic-great reference books.
I will post up as soon as i can. My grandfather took it from a flak unit member and bought it home in 1945.
