another rare maker/size out of the woodwork...

odd shape, looks like a hat for Chico of the Marx Brothers

a drop of old wax in front of the right rivet...i don't want to clean it off cause the paint underneath is probably bright apple green and will stand out

    R776 batch number

    Siemens und Halske size 60

the seller told me it was a bring back of a vet family member. there is a small piece of darkened paper at the top front, perhaps remnants of a mailing label or a stamp. i've seen a few like that, vets simply slapping an address label with stamps onto the shell and away it went

Nice helmet. These Siemens & Halske helmets are hard to find; from my experience they're about as rare as Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke (N.J.) helmets. I've only seen a handful for sale over the years and only ever owned one myself.

I think it's probable that S&H only made size 60 helmets.

a nice and rare helmet . There's just another one sold at e-bay, only an empty shell, for 200€.
Hans, I believe this siemens is a lot rarer than a NJ M16 helmet, But I agree for a NJ M17 helmet

Ivan, I just based that observation on what I've seen. I could only guess which one is rarer.

          thanks guys!

i have to agree on the N.J.'s. they are just as rare. i own another S&H60 M16 but it's repainted black and kinda rusty on inside and interestingly enough has a different shape to it, more like other German M16s.

i've only seen 2 or 3 N.J.'s sold in my 2 years of collecting, all with shell size of 62 and selling at prices beyond my means at the time. perhaps that's the only size N.J. made. i'm aware that S&H only made a size 60 shell.

i also own an ET60 M18 and will post pics soon. i haven't seen any others out there yet...

My S&H has pretty much the same shape to it as your helmet.

I haven't seen more than 2 E.T. 60 helmets in all my years, and that's not surprising when you consider that, at most, the planned number of size 60 helmets to be manufactured was to amount to only 1% of the total number of helmets made during the war.
