    Spanish War Helmets

    Hi All,
A question for you. Did the Spanish wear a German style helmet
during the Spanish war? If so did they have a national shield
on the right side, exactly like the German shield, but in there colors?
    Thank You,
    Mark

M35 helmets arrived to Spain during the Civil War, but as part of the equipment of the German forces fighting here, all of them were repainted and no decals were shown. I have not seen yet a picture of Spanish troops wearing the M35 as a general rule, but due the supply caos it's posible that some units found themselves wearing german helmets.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

I've seen a lot of photos from the Spanish Civil War but few soldiers ever seem to have helmets. That is interesting because the Czech's sold the Spanish government some helmets before the war and most of those seem to be in well-used condition, but I'm thinking that could be from poor storage as much as use in combat.

It has always been my understanding that Germany sold or gave Spain some of the first M35s. These had no markings in the shell and had the early unreinforced aluminum liners. They were all a dark Luftwaffe color. Huge amounts of these arrived in the US in the 60s imported by "the helmet king". I bought 100 of them for $250, still have one left. All had the brass Spanish eagle on the front and most had been repainted brown. None ever had decals. What you see on ebay for sale are not these but a later post war model not made in Germany. An original in good condition will bring $500 now.

            Hello,
the other possibility is tha this helmet belonged to aspanish volunteer of the Spanish Division 250 or so alled Blue Divisin, that fought with the germans against the cvomunism in russia from 1941 to 1944. The wore such helmets with a bicolor decal and on the other side the german eagle
It is uncommon, because the spanish volunteers used to put the decal without any lack or other protection, so that in the first winter, the decals falled down
            Regards
            Carlos

Mark, as Carlos says, if you find a german style helmet with the spanish colours in a decal it probably belong to the Blue Division.
Sometimes the spanish volunteers´ uniforms in Rusia are very difficult to identify as german in the photos (they dress quite freely), and the pictures from the rusian campaign may be mistaken with images from Spanish Civil War.
              Regards
