Good observation, it appears to be so. The seller has many other bad items so I concerned about anything he has.
Then the shield was most probably removed as per regulations, and this one applied post war at an attempt at price enhancement. Not 100% sure the shield is original,it might be fake.

Price should reflect this.

Glenn, I think you hit the nail on the head, this seller must get his prices $3000. from the highest price on-line dealers. Here's his description; Truly original WW2 German Model 1935 Double-Decal helmet, marked SE62, w/4-digit ser.nr. Has side eagle which to me looks gold, but could be an Army one that's oxidized to a gold tone. I don't care if it's Army; or Navy; the price is the same. The buyer can get his books out & play with the branch of service. Eagle decal has couple of chips (mars) on left wing. Tri-color decal is 100%. Helm is a smooth greenish color, no dents, no bumps, no rust. Orig. liner is in fine shape, size mrkng still legible in circle. Has its orig. leather chinstrap in great condition. Right out of the Meadville woodwork. Plus postage. <TABLE summary="craigslist hosted images"><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle></TD></TR><TR><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
