No washers on all M42 pins? That is an important fact to know! This helmet, and the M34 cap pictured below walked into an ebay seller shop with a Heer buckle and a canteen from a vet estate. Nobody had a clue what all this was worth or anything. It's an increasingly rare untouched vet buy. By the way, somebody paid $800 for this medical M34. As an M34 collector, I say the top value for even a piece as nice as this is $500...Attached FilesLast edited by sdkfz247; 07-02-2008, 09:21 PM.

I guess I've been lucky. I have spent well over $5,500. for a single decal SS helm recently but it was a very nice combat Q66 m40. A researchable SS ET64 m40 was added almost a year ago for just a little more than that sum.
Still I do feel that an SS ckl m42 still fetches a bit lower price than those simply because of the amount that seems to have survived. Once again, that is my opinion. You're right, I would not pay that for a ckl but there may be others that will.
The liner could easily be original to the helm but where are the washers??? If more than one is missing, there's a good chance it has been monkeyed with to an extent, that's also my opinion.

The question would be... "monkeyed with by WHOM?"
It's either the SS mann who owned this helmet or the veteran (or his kids) that brought it home. It's never been in a collection so it's one of those choices.
We all know liners were replaced in the field, and even taken out for funny photos (I wish I could find the one where a group of soldiers are in the barracks having a mock tribal ceremony and are stripped to the waist naked with just the LINERS on their heads). Putting the washers back on without needle nose pliers on hand is a difficult task so I imagine many washers got thrown away.
I don't have any other photos, or a time machine so we may never know!
