Unissued m40 ?? or postwar

Hi all
Bought this m40 no decal a few years ago in Norway to use as a helmet cover display to look at it it seems unused apart from a few storage marks my friend commented that the paint could be post war but I dont agree what do you all think??

Difficult to give an opinion on the color based on that picture, but you have it in your hands so you know it better. What are the markings stamped into the shell? Is there only a size-mark or also a serial number? Early post-war polizei helmets were almost identical as the wartime M40, but the rim was rather slobby turned, also post-war M40-style helmets don't have a serialnbr.

Is it possible to post a global view of the inside?

You are writing that you have Bought this m40 in Norway,seeing the
the went holes on the shell,it looks like there is a blank cirkel around the holes,for me it looks like the shell has been cleaned for the paint the Norwegian army did use after the war,the german helmet was just overpainted,and the paint the norwegian did use to overpaint the helmets are easy to remove,
my guess is that this paint has been cleaned of down to the original german field grey,I have seen this done before.

What makes it "sound very logical" is that the liner's condition do not match the paint's ; so, if it's the case, it was a very well done job...

The leather liner is indeed more used as the helmet...which sounds ' very logical ' to me as IMO ( and based on those pictures) the liner is original to the helmet and the paint applied by the Norwegians protected the original layer...

Hi Guys
Thanks for the possitve input I think its likley that removal of post war paint is the reason for a fairly intact paint work underneath
I never really gave it a thought but it would prevent the old paint from further damage.
When all is said and done its a decent enough helmet to display a helmet cover without taking a nicer decal helmet to do the job
